Breve historia

La historia del restaurante es también la historia de las cinco generaciones que lo han regentado desde finales del siglo XIX.

Todo comenzó allá por el año 1871 cuando Vicente Alegre y su mujer Mª Teresa Olandía se instalan en el número 6 de la calle Sr. Ovalle. Se trataba de una pequeña tienda de comestibles y bebidas que al poco tiempo se convirtió en una casa de comidas.

Posteriormente el hijo de ambos, Leonardo Alegre y su mujer Florentina Ramos, gran cocinera, se hicieron cargo del negocio. Él, además, compaginaba el negocio con su profesión de carpintero, trabajando en la construcción del palacio de Gaudí. La gran valía de ambos contribuyó a dar prestigio a la pequeña casa de comidas.

Fue hacia el año 1912 cuando Irene, hija de Leonardo y Florentina, comenzó a trabajar en la cocina ayudando a su madre. Mujer de gran valía, tanto gastronómica como comercial, fue quien reformó y orientó el negocio como restaurante moderno, a la vez que registró oficialmente el nombre comercial de “La Peseta”, proyectándolo no sólo a nivel nacional, sino también internacional.

A esta proyección contribuyeron también decisivamente sus hijos: Gonzalo y Luciano, los cuales formaron la 4ª generación del restaurante.

Actualmente son Luciano y su mujer Balbina los que, juntos a sus hijos Jorge, Ramón e Irene, constituyen la 5ª generación y se encargan de mantener viva la historia de esta casa que se encuentra ya en su tercer siglo de existencia.

At the beginning Vicente Alegre and his wife ,María Teresa Olandía, moved to 6 Sr. Ovalle Street and opened a grocer’s which soon became a diner.

Later, their son, Leonardo Alegre and his wife, Florentina Ramos, who was a great cook, took up the Business. It is worth mentioning that Leonardo, who was also a carpenter, devoted part of his time to the construction of the Gaudi Palace.

Both of them were such good professionals that it took them not very long to give a considerable boost to their Business.

It was about 1912 when Irene, Leonardo and Florentina’s daughter, started to work in the kitchen helping her mother. Her enormous capacity for hard work, cooking and ,above all for business, led her to consolidate and turn the old traditional  diner into a modern restaurant. At the same time, Irene registered officially the commercial name of La Peseta , projecting it not only in Spain, but also abroad. To this recognition contributed greatly their two sons, Gonzalo and Luciano, who represented the fourth generation of the restaurant.

Nowadays, Luciano and his wife, Balbina, together with their sons and daughter, are in charge of the restaurant and hotel,trying to keep alive the history of this house which has reached its third Century.
